105.7 The STEELER Fan?

I've heard about 105.7 The Fan’s Damon Yaffe's alleged love affair with the Steelers so I tuned in yesterday to see what all of the fuss was about.

Normally I don't hear much of this show because my mornings are hectic and when I do have time, I'll dial in to Rob Long on AM 1370.On one hand I get what Yaffe's saying about respect and knowing the enemy because REAL knowledge helps you to beat the enemy.

But Yaffe's arrogance while not surprising is over the top for this reason...

Knowing how emotional Baltimore is regarding the Steelers, you can't tell me that playing “Here We Go” (video below) on 105.7 The Fan wasn't intended to pour salt into the wounds of Ravens fans and stir up controversy and therefore bump ratings. Yaffe even tried to bait his substitute sidekick Ken Weinman into singing the song.

Talk about blasphemy!

Apparently the cheap publicity stunt is working but as mentioned here before if you want change, don't listen...if you don't like it, don't listen. I recommend Rob Long.

That's a shame for Mark Viviano who is a class act on AND off the air. Interestingly Yaffe is as abrasive off air as he is on.

If after a very crazy twist of fate, they happened to replace the dyed-in-the-wool Steelers fan program director with me over at 105.7 The Fan, I'd shake the line-up up as follows:

6-9: Steve Davis, Jeremy Conn (and no more cross dressing themes please)
9-12: Mark Viviano, Ken Weinman
12-3: Bob Haynie & Rob Long (free agent acquisition)
3-6: Scott Garceau & Keith Mills (another FA acquisition)

Just sayin...

I can't possibly agree with you more. I think Mark Viviano is the best. I feel bad I can't listen to his show cause Damon is such a blow-hard. He pretty much sucks in every way. I Ken Wieman would be a great replacement. I sent a couple of emails to the station suggesting the same thing a while ago.

while I do not expect every show host to be a homer and bleed purple and black, or orange and black, I do expect there to be a level of decorum and respect for the hometown teams and fans.

To turn on the radio after a disappointing loss to Baltimore's most bitter rival in sports and to hear a host of a local sports show, talking about how the Steelers are great, it is nothing short of insulting.

I am not so bling by my Ravens devotion where I can not admit that the Steelers are a very good team. They are. They may be one of the best in the NFL right now. But to constantly hear it from an on-air personality is deplorable, and he borders on gloating. He takes a sick and perverse pleasure of kicking Baltimore fans when they are down. He is the kind of person that gets off on kicking puppies, if even just to tenderize them before he eats them.

The argument that listening to this program will keep him on-air is skewed however. Yaffe is under contract with CBS Radio/105.7 The Fan. He is here until the end of that contract. Also, Arbitron ratings are done processed through surveys, but that is not it. program call volume/e-mails/and text messages are used to not just communicate your love or hate to the hatred toward the hosts, but they use those numbers of texts and calls to validate their listener base.

Anytime any of us send a text message or call to Mark and the Bulldog, that logs as a unique and dedicated listener. You can listen to the program from start to finish. There is to transmitter in your radio that lets the broadcaster know how many people are listening.

If you listen on-line, then my previous statement does not count. Online listening is easily tracked an logged. the numbers are also padded. If you listen to the Bulldog in your office at your desk, then the broadcaster will claim that about 3 people are listening per each log-in to their online stream, because co-workers are within earshot.

if you want him gone, do not call the show to tell Bulldog he is an idiot. Do not text message him to tell him he is a fat f*ck. do not send e-mails telling him that there is a free buffet down the street, in hopes that he will abandon his post at the microphone for a snack. and most importantly, do NOT listen to the program online.

Once communicative interaction drops, so will Bulldog.

Best part of your suggested lineup is that it also does not include Ed Norris!! Bringing in Rob Long is the second best thing on that list. Putting him and Haynie together would be a nice thumbed-nose to Nestor and his 17 watt amateur operation after he drove both of those class acts away.

I was listening to Cunningham's show today and he was going on and on about a Packers' fan in Chicago and then a Bengals' fan at former Raven Kyle Boller's autograph signing session and how it was just wrong to flaunt that in the face of opposing fans.

What hypocrites! Maybe he should listen to the canine on before him and how he flaunts the Steelers on a BALTIMORE sports talk station.

I feel for the sales people over there who have to sell ads. Maybe they can promote Terrible Towels or Iron City Lite.

Finally, I may just get Sirius radio.

Nice job Yaffe. Just when I thought I was over your fat a$$ and overinflated sense of self worth has to go and start this sh*t.

And Tony, I'm not sure why you even bother with that blowhard!

Leave it up to Lombardi to take any chance that he can to rip me!

Him and his two bit web site/blog. What a wannabe you are pal!

What is wrong with you? Do you realize how strong my ratings are?

Why would you embarrass yourself and leave me off this list? I have a lucrative long-term contract with CBS and trust me son, I'm going nowhere. Sort of like you!

What a loser you are.

Mr. Cunningham you sure are showing your true colors. What a tool you are!

But back to Yaffe, an even bigger tool and shame on the Fan for allowing this to happen. They might see themselves as the big game in town for now but when internet radio creeps closer to mainstream, they'll be in trouble.

For what it's worth I like your lineup there Tony but what about Ed Norris?
